Korean yen / won before the North–South currency separation
FTM000118 · Research draft
A documented account-unit or currency-system transition supports this predecessor identity; not admitted from a specimen or inherited label alone.
One scoped currency identity. Changes to subdivisions, scale, standard, instruments or issuers do not by themselves create children. A distinct account unit can remain a successor.
Dated observations: 1905–1953; this does not establish the entire lifetime.

Inference C1171
North Korea’s December 1947 reform separated its currency from the common Korean account system by replacing Bank of Chosen and Soviet occupation notes with a sole northern settlement currency. The law directly supports conversion; identifying a distinct northern currency is the territorial-branching inference. Soviet notes are instruments in the common accounting unit, not a ruble parent.
Corrected interpretation: Revision 27 supplies a new evidence basis for R-V23-011. Distinct northern settlement jurisdiction together with legal withdrawal of cross-border common instruments and handling of balances supports regional branch; do not create a Soviet-ruble parent. Replacement evidence: C1617.

The Korean yen/won account lineage inherited Japanese-yen reckoning adopted in the1905 reform. Korean treasury and banking accounts continued that reckoning through the colonial period; after1945 the inherited local unit continued under a separately controlled Korean monetary system. This supports regional ancestry from the Japanese yen, without treating the1909 change of bank issuer as creation of a new unit.
