The story

The general Indonesian rupiah replaced the separately circulating Riau Islands rupiah in July 1964. This is one regional convergence, not the origin of all rupiah money. [1]

Separate KR-rupiah salary/payment liabilities and explicit subsequent conversion into national rupiah establish independent account unit, beyond regional notes. [2]

Riau payroll and pensions switched fromKR to ordinary IndonesianRp in 1964; pre-existing KR payment/deduction obligations required a ministerial settlement procedure. [3]
