The story
Costa Rica authorized peso-denominated vouchers in 1839 specifically to pay public employees. Public remuneration establishes account/payment use before the first peso-labelled coin issues. Earlier Federal and Spanish account succession remains unproved here. [1]
The 1896 monetary reform established the colón after Costa Rican peso accounting; the new unit subsequently denominated bank capital under 1900 law. [2]
