The story
The New Hebrides franc was renamed vatu on 1 January 1981; vatu notes followed on 22 March 1982. Old New Hebrides-franc notes and Australian currency ceased legal tender on 1 April 1983. [1]
Vatu succeeds the New Hebrides franc. [2]
Turning points
Historical framework membership
The 1945 Pacific grouping explicitly includes the New Hebrides. This does not date the subsequent separation of its monetary arrangements from the other CFP territories. [3]
Regional currency continuity
New Hebrides franc issues continue the Pacific-franc system established in 1945, with IEOM issuance from 1967. This is a regional issue lineage; the date of separate exchange arrangements is not claimed. [4]
