The story

The surviving evidence establishes this unit of account, but a fuller narrative is still being developed. Its known connections are shown above; the research page documents what is established and what remains uncertain.

Turning points

Territorial currency separation

Slovenian tolars replaced Yugoslav dinars at par. [1]

Regular banknotes issued

Regular tolar banknotes followed the 1991 temporary payment notes. A cash-series milestone, not a second currency birth. [2]

Euro monetary substitution

1 EUR = 239.640 SIT. Slovenia: euro adoption 2007-01-01; cash 2007-01-01. Regulation 974/98 substitutes the euro for each participating state’s currency on its adoption date; cash changeover is separately defined. [3] [4] [5]

Euro cash changeover

Slovenia: euro adoption 2007-01-01; cash 2007-01-01. [4]
