The story

The 1963 dissolution order ends the Federation immediately before 1 January 1964; its currency provisions preserve a separate transitional life. [1]

Turning points

Account-unit observation

Contemporary official reporting identifies Southern Rhodesia's monetary unit as the pound of 20 shillings and 240 pence within the British monetary system. [2]

Account-unit observation

The Southern Rhodesia Currency Board was established in 1939 and issued notes from March 1940, with extension to Nyasaland and Northern Rhodesia during 1940. This dates regional monetary administration and instruments, not a fresh account denomination. [3]

Issuer succession context

Inference: They describe Central Africa Currency Board succession on 12 March 1954 and Bank of Rhodesia and Nyasaland succession on 1 April 1956; these do not independently prove new units. [4]

Federal currency continuation order

Inference: The 1963 dissolution order ends the Federation immediately before 1 January 1964; its currency provisions preserve a separate transitional life. Section 66 continues federal currency tender until 1 January 1965, or a ministerially appointed later date no later than 1 June 1965. [1] [5]

Conditional tender end schedule

Section 66 continues federal currency tender until 1 January 1965, or a ministerially appointed later date no later than 1 June 1965. [5]

Conditional issuer dissolution schedule

Section 70 provides for bank dissolution on 31 December 1965 or an earlier appointed date, separately from currency demonetisation and asset distribution. [6]
