The story
The royal Lao kip replaced the shared Indochinese piastre as legal tender for payments in May 1955. National separation, not mere local banknote design; exact conversion rate not needed or asserted. [1]
The Cambodian riel replaced the shared Indochinese piastre in 1955, ending the common monetary arrangement. Applies to pre-abolition riel; not a direct uninterrupted edge to 1980 currency. [2]
The shared Indochinese piastre account system separated into the South Vietnamese piastre/dong: its founding central-bank participant describes division of the common balance sheet and debts, continuity of existing financial commitments, and replacement of colonial piastres by dong. [3]
