The story
Banxico says the 1823 Republic retained reales and escudos while changing coin designs. [1]
Banxico describes decimal coinage in 1869–1905, with interruptions, and a gold-standard reform in 1905. [2]
Mexico introduced one new peso for 1, 000 old pesos on 1 January 1993; dropping “new” in 1996 did not repeat the conversion. [3]
