The story
The bank's institutional timeline dates the first national currency issue to 1977. [1]
Cabo Verde’s national escudo notes replaced Banco Nacional Ultramarino notes in 1977. This documents an issuer/issue transition; a distinct colonial-to-national account-unit boundary has not been established. [2]
Cabo Verde had locally differentiated real issues by 1865 and escudo accounting from 1914. This is a qualified extension of the existing identity; the 1977 issuer change does not create another currency. [3]
