The story
Gambian national notes began on 5 October 1964; the central bank took over on 1 March 1971. [1]
Indexed CBG text dates the currency ordinance’s operation to 1 October 1964 and the national notes four days later. [2]
Indexed CBG text gives 21 November 1966 for national coin introduction, conflicting with the 1965 date repeated by Krus–Schuler. [3]
Turning points
Unit replacement
A US Treasury notice records Gambian decimalisation effective 1 July 1971, with five dalasis replacing one pound. [4]
