The story

Equatorial Guinea introduced its own peseta in 1969 after previously forming part of the Spanish monetary area using the Spanish peseta. The national unit was initially at parity with the Spanish peseta and was subsequently renamed ekwele in 1975. The parent is the Spanish peseta; the earlier national name was peseta, not peso. [1]

Turning points
